AI and Music Composition (Article ID: 235 - published on Sun 02/02/2020)
Will Artificial Intelligence (AI) be ever able to compose music comparable to that composed by humans? The answer is definitely NO. But why? AI will easily implement any set of standard or elaborated rules for music composition. There is no question to that. Anyway, AI will not understand when those rules should be broken and why. Besides, AI will not even remotely be able to genuinely express any real human feelings. AI will only succeed in composing rule-based and mechanical-thinking ideas that derive from inhuman mental calculations. Those works will sometimes be very impressive; eg. imagine colossal orchestrations or ultra-complex counterpoint. Finally, I think there will just be a new genre called "AI music" that perhaps will be interesting but rather shallow. This genre will be able to imitate all "human" genres existing. The only way for AI music to become fully impressive and outstanding is if all us humans eventually become a kind of computer ourselves.. Any opinions of yours?
